Julie Ferguson was 17 years old when she was abducted and murdered after finishing a shift at her after-school retail job in Greenbelt, MD.Witnesses saw Julie speaking to three people occupying a red or burgundy Volkswagen sedan similar to the one pictured shortly before her abduction.Early in the morning following Julie’s nighttime abduction, her body was discovered in the vicinity of Daisy Lane Memorial Park (pictured via Google Maps satellite image). It was named after Julie, whose body was found on the outskirts of the park.Julie was a high school senior at the time of her death, and had dreams of becoming a journalist. She was known as a friendly, social and responsible young woman.At one point in the investigation into Julie’s case, a local man named Doug DeSilva was considered a possible suspect because he had allegedly attempted to murder another woman. However, DNA evidence revealed that he was innocent of that crime, and that a man named Mark Eskridge–who he greatly resembled–was the perpetrator. DeSilva has no known history of violence.

He targeted women who struggled with substance abuse. Although Jamie did not use drugs, her future father-in-law–Ricky Simonds Sr–did. This podcast episode explores the possibility of Hembree’s involvement, but it’s only a theory. Hembree has never been named a suspect by law enforcement.
